The Judolions of the NO became JtfO Lower Saxony Champion 2008, as part of a nationwide school championship. Team members were Gerrit Fucke, Frederik Jäde, Julian Schade, Thorben Pieper, Jan Reisner and Björn Krog. The boys all visit the Neue Oberschule Braunschweig getting their judo training lessons in the morning within school hours and getting additional teaching support by their teachers when they have to miss a lecture for that. Thus the boys school team qualified for the Final in Nesselwang, where they place eleventh rank, being still very young and unfortunately missing one team member due to a flu infection. Congratulations!

The NO is located centrally in Braunschweig and well to reach using public transportation. Either Latin or French is offered as second foreign language starting in grade 6. There is a bilingual branch (certain different classes continually held in the English language). Student exchange is offered with France (Paris and Lille), Sweden, Italy and USA. Virtual International Contacts are provided for by the Computer AG via Internet. The school provides special students groups for music and theatre thus providing some challenging opportunities for creative minds. The main focus is on performing arts with annual theatre plays devised by the student groups themselves. The Big Band of the NO is well known in Braunschweig. Students also write a school journal, annual year books and run a radio station "Pausenradio Kaktus". The school was nominated Expo-school in 2000. The school additionally offers sports activities like skiing, canoeing, hockey and volleyball, with special emphasis on Judo as performance sport. A fitness room can be used by the students. The school is now officially state certified partner school for performance sports Judo and is offering morning training sessions lead by state coach Gottfried Burucker and SFV Europa Coaches combined with individual tutoring lessons for the classed missed during that time. |

Abroad schools are established, which actively promote Judo as performance sport in order to offer young talents a career as top athlete and a profound school education at the same time. In Germany there exist some Judo boarding schools to this effect (Kaiserslautern, Hannover). The SFV Europa as a host to the Regional Judo Europa Training Squad Centre - accredited by the Lower Saxony Sports Assocation (LSB) and the Lwoer Saxony Judo Association (NJV) - has now established an official partnership with the local high school Gymnasium Neue Oberschule as officially certified school partner of Performance Sports Judo. Thus training sessions can be offered in the morning to young athletes and tuition will be given to students for classes missed due to training and training camps. The high school is favourably located for public transportation. The program provides an excellent training opportunity by state certified coaches for young talents of the region without them having to leave their homes and families at a fairly young age. Thus they are stronlgy supported by their personal club coaches on their top sports quest even and especially when things start bo be a strain. Success does not always come easy and young athletes need strong support during those times by their coaches and the training group they are working and familiar with in order to keep with fun and committment at the game. At this moment 15 young squad athletes use this opportunity. Young talents mainly focused on performance sports should think about this alternative when planning their further school career after their elementary school years are finished. Starting at grades 5 and 6 a sports study group for Judo performance sports is offered on Wednesdays at noon. No other classes take place at that time so that classes will not be missed at this age. This time saving arrangement helps students to adjust to their new environment. For grade 7 on participants have training sessions twice or three times a week using the sports facilities of the school. Here an individual training adapted to the athletes needs can be designed using video analysis. Tutoring lessons for the classes missed will be held at the same day individually or in small groups, which again saves time for the athlete. |
